Salisbury Steak with Mashed Potatoes and Mushroom Gravy
A hearty comfort food classic — juicy beef patties simmered in a savory mushroom gravy and served over creamy mashed potatoes. Perfect for a cozy weeknight dinner or family meal.
Ingredients
For the Steaks:
- 1 lb ground beef
- ¼ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- ½ onion, finely chopped
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 package refrigerated prepared mashed potatoes (cooked per instructions)
For the Gravy:
- 2 Tbsp butter
- 8 oz sliced mushrooms
- 2 cups beef broth
- 2 Tbsp flour
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, onion, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well by hand until combined.
- Shape mixture into 4 even patties.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear patties on both sides until browned. Remove and set aside.
- Discard excess fat from skillet. Add butter and mushrooms, sauté until softened.
- Sprinkle flour over mushrooms, stir well, then slowly whisk in beef broth. Season with salt and pepper if needed.
- Return patties to skillet, reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer until steaks are cooked through and gravy thickens.
- Serve hot over prepared mashed potatoes.
Pro Tip: For an extra rich flavor, stir a splash of Worcestershire sauce or a pinch of thyme into the gravy before simmering.
