Instructions
Marinate the Steak:
- In a bowl, combine soy sauce, cornstarch, and black pepper.
- Add sliced flank steak and toss to coat well. Let marinate for at least 20 minutes.
Stir-Fry the Vegetables:
- Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add sliced onions and bell peppers. Stir-fry for 3–4 minutes until tender-crisp. Remove and set aside.
Cook the Steak:
- Heat remaining oil in the same pan.
- Add marinated steak in batches, stir-frying for 2–3 minutes until browned and just cooked through. Set aside.
Prepare the Sauce:
- In the same pan, sauté minced garlic and ginger for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add beef broth, soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, and pepper flakes if using.
- Bring to a simmer, then add the cornstarch slurry to thicken the sauce.
Combine and Serve:
- Return steak and vegetables to the pan. Toss to coat evenly in sauce.
- Cook 2–3 minutes more, until everything is hot and sauce has thickened.
- Serve hot over steamed white rice. Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions, if desired.
Recipe Notes
- Slice the steak thinly against the grain for maximum tenderness.
- Use red, yellow, or orange bell peppers for added sweetness and color contrast.
