Southern Style Baked Beans
This is still my absolute favorite way to make baked beans. The sauce is thick, smoky, and flavorful—and every time I take this dish to a cookout, I get asked for the recipe! These beans are simple to prepare and packed with flavor thanks to smoky bacon and a touch of sweetness.
Ingredients
- 2 (28 oz) cans baked beans with bacon
- ½ cup ketchup
- ½ cup BBQ sauce
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 5–6 slices thick-cut bacon, diced into ½-inch pieces
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray and set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine baked beans, ketchup, BBQ sauce, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper. Stir until well blended.
- Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
- Evenly distribute the diced bacon over the top of the beans.
- Bake uncovered for 60–90 minutes, or until the bacon is crispy and the sauce is bubbly and thickened.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
Recipe Notes
- Make Ahead: You can mix the beans the night before, refrigerate, and bake the next day.
- Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
- Optional Add-In: A bit of chopped onion or diced jalapeño adds extra kick.
