Southern Style Baked Beans

This is still my absolute favorite way to make baked beans. The sauce is thick, smoky, and flavorful—and every time I take this dish to a cookout, I get asked for the recipe! These beans are simple to prepare and packed with flavor thanks to smoky bacon and a touch of sweetness.

Ingredients

  • 2 (28 oz) cans baked beans with bacon
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ½ cup BBQ sauce
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 5–6 slices thick-cut bacon, diced into ½-inch pieces

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray and set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, combine baked beans, ketchup, BBQ sauce, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper. Stir until well blended.
  3. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  4. Evenly distribute the diced bacon over the top of the beans.
  5. Bake uncovered for 60–90 minutes, or until the bacon is crispy and the sauce is bubbly and thickened.
  6. Serve warm and enjoy!

Recipe Notes

  • Make Ahead: You can mix the beans the night before, refrigerate, and bake the next day.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
  • Optional Add-In: A bit of chopped onion or diced jalapeño adds extra kick.
