Southern 3-Ingredient Pecan Pralines

Buttery, Caramelized & Irresistibly Snackable

These Southern 3-ingredient pecan pralines are my go-to when I need something homemade, fast, and dangerously addictive. Inspired by the classic candy-shop treats you’d find in New Orleans, this simplified version skips the fuss but keeps all that rich, buttery flavor.

No candy thermometer, no complicated steps—just brown sugar, butter, and plenty of pecans coming together in a glossy caramel that sets into sweet, crunchy clusters. Fair warning: they disappear fast. Around here, half the batch rarely makes it to the table.

 Time & Servings

  • Prep Time: 10 minutes
  • Cook Time: 10 minutes
  • Cool Time: 30–45 minutes
  • Servings: 18–24 pralines

 Ingredients (Just 3!)

  • 2 cups pecan halves
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (1 stick), cut into pieces

 Instructions

Step 1: Prep Your Pan

Line a baking sheet with foil (shiny side up) and lightly grease it. Keep it nearby—you’ll need to work quickly later.

Step 2: Toast the Pecans

In a dry skillet over medium heat, toast pecans for 4–6 minutes, stirring often, until fragrant. Set aside.

Step 3: Make the Caramel

In a saucepan, combine brown sugar and butter over medium heat.
Stir constantly as it melts and transforms from grainy to smooth and glossy.

Step 4: Cook Until Bubbling

Let the mixture bubble for 3–5 minutes until thickened and deep golden brown—like a pourable caramel.

Step 5: Add Pecans

Remove from heat and quickly stir in the toasted pecans until evenly coated.

Step 6: Drop the Pralines

Spoon heaping portions onto the prepared tray, spacing slightly apart.
(Those lacy edges = extra crunch!)

Step 7: Cool & Set

Let cool at room temperature for 30–45 minutes until firm.
If needed, chill briefly to help them set.

Step 8: Serve & Enjoy

Peel from foil and serve—or try not to eat them all at once

 Serving Ideas

  • Pair with hot coffee or black tea
  • Serve alongside vanilla ice cream or cheesecake
  • Add to dessert platters or holiday trays
  • Pack in tins for gifts or bake sales

 Tips for Perfect Pralines

  • Stir constantly to prevent burning
  • Work quickly once caramel is ready
  • Toast pecans for deeper flavor
  • Use a heavy-bottomed pan for even cooking

 Variations & Twists

 Deeper Flavor
Use half dark brown sugar for a richer taste.

 Sweet & Salty
Sprinkle a pinch of kosher salt on top before setting.

 Extra Crunch
Add up to ½ cup more pecans.

 Bite-Size Version
Use a teaspoon instead of a tablespoon for smaller pieces.

 Storage

  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days
  • Layer with wax paper to prevent sticking
  • Avoid humidity (it can soften the caramel)

 Final Thoughts

These pecan pralines are everything a great homemade treat should be—simple, nostalgic, and unbelievably good. With just three ingredients, you get that classic Southern candy-shop flavor right in your own kitchen.

Just don’t expect leftovers—they’re known to vanish fast.
