Pan of homemade peanut butter fudge cut into squares

Some recipes are worth waiting for — like this old-fashioned peanut butter fudge, the kind of treat a mother makes at Christmas and hands down to her children. Rich, creamy, and melt-in-your-mouth smooth, this classic stovetop fudge comes together in minutes and sets up beautifully every time. No wonder it disappears by the batch.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 (7-ounce) jar marshmallow creme
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on two sides for easy lifting.
  2. In a heavy medium saucepan, combine the sugar, butter, and evaporated milk. Bring to a full rolling boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.
  3. Boil for 4 minutes, stirring constantly to prevent scorching.
  4. Remove from the heat and stir in the peanut butter, marshmallow creme, vanilla, and salt until completely smooth and glossy.
  5. Quickly pour the mixture into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  6. Let cool at room temperature for 2–3 hours, or refrigerate until firm.
  7. Lift from the pan using the parchment overhang and cut into 1-inch squares.

Wrap squares in wax paper for gift-giving, or keep them in an airtight container at room temperature — this is one Christmas tradition worth keeping all year long.
