Classic Tomato Sandwich
Simple, nostalgic, and irresistibly delicious—this tomato sandwich shines brightest in peak tomato season.
Ingredients
- 2 slices dense wholegrain bread with lots of seeds
- 1 medium ripe beefsteak tomato
- 1 1/2 teaspoons mayonnaise (adjust to taste)
- 1 pinch kosher salt
- Freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
- Toast bread to your preference. Let cool slightly.
- Core and slice tomato into thin slices, about 1/8-inch thick.
- Spread mayonnaise over one side of each toast slice.
- Layer tomato slices on one slice of toast.
- Sprinkle generously with salt and black pepper.
- Top with the second slice of toast, mayo-side down.
- Cut in half—diagonally or vertically—and serve immediately.
Tip: For extra flavor, add a sprinkle of flaky sea salt or fresh basil leaves.
