Baked Apple Fritters
These baked apple fritters are light, fluffy, and packed with Honeycrisp apple chunks, warm spices, and finished with a sweet vanilla glaze. No frying needed!
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 pinch salt
- 6 tablespoons cold unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup chopped Honeycrisp apple
- 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
- 2 tablespoons whole milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Heat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Cut in butter with a pastry blender (or fork) until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a small bowl or cup, whisk together milk, egg, and vanilla extract. Stir into flour mixture just until combined. Fold in chopped apples.
- Shape Fritters: Drop 1/4-cup scoops of batter onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake: Bake 11–12 minutes, or until a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean. Transfer to a wire rack.
- Glaze & Broil: Preheat broiler. In a small bowl, whisk together confectioners’ sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Brush fritters with glaze and broil for about 2 minutes, until glaze is bubbly.
- Cool & Serve: Let fritters cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm!
